In the second part of our special feature on where property investors can find potential for profit in Panama’s real estate market we’ll be taking a look at locations other than Panama City where there is everything from commercial property options to residential and tourism facing real estate profitability likely in 2008 and beyond.
In part one of our property in Panama feature we focused on Chiriqui, Cocle, Colon and Herrera, and today we’ll be looking at Los Santos, Veraguas, Bocas del Toro and Darien.
Los Santos
Los Santos is a central province of Panama located on the Azuero Peninsula where real estate investors looking for the next big thing should look at tourism related residential and commercial real estate projects on the beaches of Azuero, and expat and retirement options in the mountains of the peninsula.
The region is famous for its carnivals and celebrations and becoming more popular with tourists who want to get off the well-worn trail of either city based shopping or purely beach related holidaying. Although currently a province dominated by agriculture, there is room for massive expansion especially in terms of the tourism market…again, this is a province to watch and one with emerging potential.
Veraguas Province
There is limited immediate property investment potential in the Veraguas Province despite the fact the province has stunning coastlines on both the Caribbean and the Pacific oceans and it has some of the best and most abundantly diverse flora and fauna in Panama. There are emerging tourism opportunities to be had, but tread carefully thinking about accessibility and long-term appeal.
Bocas del Toro
This is one of the strongest markets in Panama for real estate investors currently. The islands are tourism hotspots because of their stunning nature, the fact they lie in the warm, clear waters of the Caribbean and because they are highly accessible from the US in particular.
Naturally the level of appeal means that property prices are among the highest in Panama in the Bocas del Toro province…particularly for beachfront property. Don’t necessarily let this put you off though – there are still untapped corners of the market – and of course, because demand is so intense and likely to remain so intense, there is long term affordability as well as demand to support the market.
And finally in the second and last part of Amberlamb’s feature on where to buy investment property in Panama we look at the province of Darien.
As the largest province in Panama yet the least populated, property investors will immediately be wondering where the problem lies! And there are no problems as such, it’s just that Darien is not the place for real estate investors to make a serious profit! The region is so ecologically diverse, so lush and home to rainforests and some of the wettest weather in Panama. It is well worth a visit, it is well worth consideration by those seeking alternative forms of investment – such as eco tours maybe – but it’s not the place to hunt for real estate bargains. On a visit to Panama though, the scenery and natural attractions of Darien are well worth exploration.
