Belize Estate Agents Raising Property Industry Standards

Although a relatively young organisation, the Association of Real Estate Brokers of Belize certainly has teeth when it comes to taking positive action relating to the development and enhancement of the property industry in Belize.

Yesterday organisation members met for their annual general meeting and a direct outcome of the topics under discussion at the AGM was an agreement that it is up to Belize estate agents to raise property industry standards.  To that end a proposal has been made for key Association members to work together with the government to establish a code of conduct and general property industry standards.

Belize estate agents working together under the umbrella of the Association of Real Estate Brokers of Belize have so far successfully lobbied the Belize parliament for more industry counsel to be sought before key decisions likely to affect the property industry in Belize are taken, and also for more forethought and warning to be given to policy changes that could directly affect not only the real estate industry but the property investment climate in Belize in general.

The government has welcomed the formation of the Association and is also willing to take heed of some of its more pertinent suggestions which is why at the AGM members yesterday agreed that it was high time to begin working directly with the government to produce a bill that if ratified will require Belize real estate brokers to be registered, trained and qualified and therefore to be the best representatives of Belize and its property market possible.

Because Belize estate agents are often the very first representatives of the nation that property investors and home buyers come into contact with, it is imperative that these people provide transparency to the property market and that they are properly qualified and vetted and therefore well able to represent the nation and its property market properly and accurately.

It is the wish of the Association of Real Estate Brokers of Belize that the government will produce legislation to ensure standards in the property market in Belize are raised and to ensure all those who set up as property brokers represent the nation properly.  Providing greater transparency and security in the real estate industry is the next logical step in the ongoing process to make Belize property some of the most attractive in the world.
