An Essential Update on Lebanon

Regular readers of Amberlamb will be well aware that we were excited by the rapid and massive developments occurring in Lebanon - particularly in the capital city of Beirut where huge private and public investment was being poured into infrastructure improvements and into the rebuilding and modernisation of the Paris of the Middle East…

Naturally enough recent events have of course changed everything....

The recent attacks on Lebanon resulted in over thirty billion dollars worth of damage to essential infrastructure and the underlying economy.  This figure is continuing to rack up as more damage is discovered.

Both Dubai’s DAMAC properties and Kuwait’s Levant Holdings have vociferously stated that they are committed to their property development plans in Lebanon and to the general improvement of the nation for the benefit of its citizens.

Both companies have advised that while the attacks on the citizens of Lebanon continue they will wait calmly for a resolution to the situation before continuing with their plans to develop La Residence in DAMAC’s case and Phoenicia Village in Levant Holding’s case.

The announcements may seem insignificant in light of the weight of tragedy and fear bearing down across the entire Middle Eastern region currently, but hopefully great comfort will soon be able to be taken by the Lebanese people that the destruction of parts of their nation and the overwhelming damage to their economy that is relentlessly taking place does not mean the end to their country’s future prospects.

Many nations whilst politically, militarily or economically restricted in the direct assistance that they can give the Lebanon do support the nation and will help to rebuild it.

It is a tragedy for Lebanon and for the free world that the economy of a country that was working so hard to benefit its citizens and improve their quality of life should be destroyed.  Lebanon was expecting its greatest number of tourists this year ever, it was looking forward to another record breaking year in terms of the foreign direct investment it received into its property sector and it was looking forward to continuing its development peacefully and in a sustainable way…

Like DAMAC properties and Levant Holdings we are not giving up on Lebanon, we will wait and pray for the immediate cessation of hostilities in the region and then we will look forward to the rebirth of a strong, prosperous and secure nation.
